Orbicell® Bioresins grafted with specific binding functional groups are able to selectively hook “disease markers”. A variety of biomolecules like proteins, peptides, glycoproteins, oligo- and poly-sugars, hormones, oligo- and poly-nucleotides, ect, each of them playing a specific role of enzymes, receptors, signaling compounds, lectins, genomic fragments and markers, to mention a few, can be immobilized on the surface of Orbicell® beads either via covalent bonds, by complex-forming functions or via CBD (Cellulose Binding Domain) fusion proteins. The latter type of binding involves plain, un-functionalized Orbicell® cellulose beads whose outer, nonporous surface skin, exhibits a microcrystalline structure, essential for the binding of a CBD fragment.
