Orbicell® Up Close

APL’s Orbicell® matrix of spherical, glassy non-porous beads withstands pressures up to 700 psi and a wide pH range. When this robust Orbicell® matrix is combined with unique binding ligands on it’s surface, and coupled with continuous centrifugation or cross – flow filtration processes, proteins can be purified more efficiently than with traditional methods. A wide range of ligands has been attached to the Orbicell® matrix for purification of target proteins and other biomolecules. A proprietary surface chemistry is used to covalently attach ligands to the surface of Orbicell® Bioresin via non-hydrolysable bonds. The resulting Bioresins have high capacities for binding proteins, with no side effects of shedding and leaching affinity ligands, which may arise from less stable types of attachments. Some of the presently used, competitive sorbents suffer from this troublesome side effect.
