Robustness

Mechanical Stability

  • Compatible with all biological buffers; also with 8M urea, 6M guanidine hydrochloride and other chaotropic agents.
  • Beads can be stirred vigorously without producing fines.
  • Beads operate in a wide range of pH (1:14)
  • Beads can be frozen in water solutions without cracking.
  • Beads can be sterilized by stirring them for 16 hours, at room temperatures, in 1 N NaOH solution.
  • Beads can be autoclaved or steam sterilized for re-use.
  • Physical integrity not compromised under rigors of high speed centrifugation or tangential flow conditions.

Chemical Stability

A unique feature of the Orbicell® Bioresin is their structural stability in most organic solvents. This unique feature increases the options for ligand attachments to the surface, where complex solid phase reactions in organic solvents are used to construct surfaces with special affinity features. On replacing the solvents with water, beads exhibit very modest (approximately 6 to 12 %) expansion of their volume.
